The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies posted an information brief, Positive Youth Development: Using Strengths to Address Alcohol Abuse and Suicide Among American Indian and Alaska Native Youth, as a strengths-based training and technical assistance tool. This brief provides background on suicide and substance abuse among American Indian and Alaska Native youth, identifies factors for protecting against those influences, and provides a community-based positive youth development approach for prevention.

Professionals are provided with several additional strengths-based programs from SAMHSA's National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices, along with other related programs that encourage positive approaches to prevention. Additional helpful resources are also included and are available on the SAMHSA website.
