April 2019Vol. 20, No. 3Connecting for Meaningful Collaborations

The FRIENDS Online Training Center offers "Connecting for Meaningful Collaborations," a five-module course to teach prevention and child welfare professionals about the importance of collaborating and the common language and different terms that each uses. Participants also hear about successful examples in states (Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington, and Wisconsin) that effectively contributed to both Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention (CBCAP) programs and child welfare service goals.

The five modules consist of the following:

  • Module One—This module offers an introduction to the course. Participants learn why collaboration among CBCAP State Lead Agencies (SLAs), their funded child abuse prevention programs, and child welfare agencies is critical to their work.
  • Module Two—This module, called "Continuum of Services for Children and Families," provides information about the CBCAP and child welfare systems and discusses their similarities and differences.
  • Module Three—This module, called "Moving to a Common Language," focuses on the concepts and terms that CBCAP and child welfare programs have in common and how they are used within each system.
  • Module Four—This module discusses both the challenges and promising aspects of collaboration.
  • Module Five—This module, called "Collaborative Relationships in Action," highlights the collaboration between CBCAP SLAs and their child welfare counterparts.
