February 2023Vol. 24, No. 1Transforming Experience Through HOPE
The Children's Bureau Learning and Coordination Center has a training module, "Transforming Experience Through HOPE (Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences)," that is intended to help child welfare professionals build an understanding of how positive early experiences can lead to healthy outcomes and well-being later in life.
This module is based on the work of the HOPE National Resource Center and guides participants to do the following:
- Become grounded in seminal research on the long-term impacts of early adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
- Learn more about the research on positive experiences and their effect on future health and well-being.
- Learn more about the biological mechanisms by which positive experiences impact the brain and body.
- Learn more about the building blocks of HOPE and how to incorporate HOPE principles into casework.
The module walks participants through a description of ACEs, including how they can affect long-term outcomes, and how HOPE can help mitigate the negative consequences of ACEs. It also includes activities and videos from Dr. Robert Sege, who is leading the HOPE work nationally.
