Through the collection of data on sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression (SOGIE), child welfare and related systems can better serve, support, and elevate youth and families involved in the child welfare system who identify as LGBTQIA2S+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, asexual, Two-Spirit, or other gender or sexual identity). The podcast series Collecting Data on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression in Child Welfare, designed for child welfare professionals, researchers, and other public and private child- and family-serving systems, focuses on the collection of SOGIE data for this specific subset of the population.
The episodes in this four-part series address what SOGIE data are and why they are important; lessons learned on safely and effectively collecting SOGIE data from young people; and understanding SOGIE data use and collection at the county, community, and state system levels:
