December/January 2024Vol. 24, No. 10Webinar on Strategies for Understanding, Engaging, and Supporting Indigenous Families
Providing culturally responsive services and supports is a key part of child welfare practice with diverse populations. In a webinar from AdoptUSKids, presenters Heather La Forme-Maldonado and Kendra Lowden provide strategies for working with Alaska Native and American Indian families.
The webinar, “Understanding, Engaging, and Supporting Native Families,” provides child welfare professionals with an introduction to tribes, citizenship, and connection and includes overviews of tribal sovereignty, significant historical events, and the Indian Child Welfare Act. In addition, the webinar covers strategies for supporting and engaging Indigenous families.
Viewers should note that the presentation was originally developed as part of a capacity-building effort for a specific state but features information that is applicable to those outside of that specific state.
