September 2023Vol. 24, No. 7New Lesson Learned: Core Professional Characteristics for Engaging Children and Youth
The Quality Improvement Center on Engaging Youth in Finding Permanency (QIC-EY) released the third lesson in its Lessons Learned series. The lesson presents the findings from a literature review that identified the three core professional characteristics—commitment, self-awareness, and flexibility—the child welfare workforce needs to authentically engage with the children and youth in its care.
The lesson details these important characteristics, asking readers to think critically about what they mean to their agencies and staff, and it outlines the associated competencies that can help facilitate effective engagement. A tool for understanding and strengthening each characteristic is also included.
