September 2023Vol. 24, No. 7Updated Tip Sheet: Child and Family Services Review State Data Profile, Round 4

The Capacity Building Center for States recently updated the Child and Family Services Review (CFSR) State Data Profile Quick Reference tip sheet, part of its CFSR Statewide Data Indicators series.

The tip sheet, updated for round 4 of the CFSRs, helps build an understanding of the different elements of the CFSR Data Profile and supports the interpretation of state performance on statewide data indicators. It includes visualizations of the risk-standardized performance, national performance, and observed performance, as well as information on the seven statewide data indicators:

  • Permanency in 12 months (entries)
  • Permanency in 12 months (12–23 months)
  • Permanency in 12 months (24+ months)
  • Reentry to foster care
  • Placement stability
  • Maltreatment in care
  • Recurrence of maltreatment

State child welfare agency leaders, staff, and other partners can use these data profiles to assess the strengths and improvement needs as part of strategic planning, reporting, and continuous quality improvement efforts.

The tip sheet—used together with the Guide for Using the State Data Profile and Context Data and application example from the CFSR Round 4 Planning and Implementation Tools series—can help state teams prepare for the CFSR Statewide Assessment and examine and disaggregate state data to better understand experiences and outcomes of children and young people served by the child welfare system.
