December/January 2013Vol. 13, No. 11Building Successful Resource Families

The Annie E. Casey Foundation released a new publication, Building Successful Resource Families: A Guide for Public Agencies, which is designed to share knowledge of best practices used by jurisdictions to find and keep quality resource families. Resource families are adoptive, foster, and kinship families. Agencies face several challenges in finding and retaining resource families, including a shortage of available families and limited training.

The guide explores the development, recruitment, and support needed for successful resource families. More than 20 appendices are also available as PDFs, ranging in topic from interview guides and tips for how to develop recruitment plans to creative outreach exercises and examples of resource family satisfaction surveys.
